Purpose
The Fundraising Department is charged with the responsibility of mobilizing local resources in order to help maintain the services of JAS and supplement donor funds and income.
Although this has always been a component of JAS' work, the organisation recently took the decision to formalize this into a department so as to move towards sustainability. Consequently, this is the newest Department in the organisation.
Its aim is to consistently raise funds for JAS to support the agency's operations and to make regular additions to our Trust Fund. The Department is sponsored by Christian Aid of London who also recently facilitated JAS staff members being trained in local resource mobilization by GAPA Bahia in Brazil .
Staff
The Former Director of this Department, Fabian Thomas is based in the Montego Bay Chapter with Paul Sloley being the Jr. Administrative Assistant. One strategy in achieving the work is through the existence and operation of local Fundraising Committees. In Montego Bay, that Committee was managed by Fabian Thomas. In Ocho Rios and Kingston vibrant Fundraising Committees exist and are headed by Novlet Reid and Brain Bark respectively. The other members of these committees are JAS staff and volunteers.
Activities
Some of the Department's activities include but are not limited to the following:-
JAS has been able to secure the involvement of many organisations/institutions to have labeled tins placed in strategic locations thereby allowing members of the public to be able to make contributions. This arrangement has worked best when the organisation appoints someone from within their ranks that will be responsible for managing the tins.
Barita Investments Limited in Kingston; Courts and Super Plus (Barnett Street) in Montego Bay and Pompano Pharmacy in Ocho Rios are but some of the locations in which tins are presently placed. This venture has been able to prove true the Jamaican adage 'one one cocoa full basket'.

Fundraising Ventures
These ventures come in many formats and sizes, and include benefit performances, fish fries, wine and cheesecake and art/fashion auction, art exhibitions, concerts and parties.
In-kind contribution
Some of the oldest contributors to JAS do so through material items. Some of these in-kind contributions have ranged from baked items, medication and lunches to motor vehicles, prize items and advertising space. Some include but are not limited to:-
All Fresh Bakery- Shortwood Road who for close to twelve years has donated baked items to the Kingston Chapter.

| Allfresh Bakery |
KFC ( Howard Cooke Boulevard ) who keep our Montego Bay Chapter supplied with chicken for our clinic day.
In Ocho Rios, The Jamaica Grande Hotel has given complimentary accommodation as a prize for the organisation's fundraiser and Dougho Printery for printing the organisation's newsletter.

Diaspora Fundraising Committees
Another strategy of this Department is to target Jamaicans living abroad and attempt to enlist their contribution to the operation of JAS in Jamaica. Miami , Toronto (jastorontogroup@yahoo.ca), New York and London are the cities that have been targeted thus far.
We look forward to informing you of the plans and successes of theses fundraising groups in the near future.

Employee Salary deduction
Some company employees have given permission for deductions to be made form their salary to benefit JAS. These have proven to be a very useful way of contributing to the fight against AIDS but also of heightening awareness within the workforce about the disease.
We salute the workers of International Insurance Brokers (IIB) for taking this very bold stand.
